ATLANTA, Ga. -- The road home for Christie Scott runs over crushed car parts and between the lines of accident reconstruction.  This is not exactly what he had in mind when she moved into her Atlantic Station townhouse two years ago.

"It was a pretty quiet street," she said.

Traffic increased as the live, work, and play area blossomed.  Then, 14th Street closed as part of 14th Street Bridge project.  Now, the detour runs past Christie's front door.  The intersection of 16th Street and Market Street has one stop sign and no traffic lights.

"There are cars trying to turn, cars driving too fast, cars not knowing where to go," Christie said.

There's a crosswalk on Market Street, but no crosswalk on 16th Street. Because of construction, residents are no longer able to park along the road.  Instead, they park on side streets, which are on the other side of this busy intersection.  Its means a steady stream of pedestrians dodging traffic.

"I see close calls every day and accidents once a week now," Christie said.

She's been taking pictures and video of the recent accidents, hoping someone will do something to reign in the detour.

From the beginning on the 14th Street Bridge project, GDOT has been urging commuters to avoid using 16th Street.  They recommend taking Northside Drive, which runs through a more commerical area.

Atlantic Station representatives say the road is owned by the City of Atlanta and any changes would have to go through the city.
