Locust Grove, GA -- Evidence, the injured baby zebra found along Interstate 75 in April, made his public debut Saturday.

The zebra has been recovering at his new home, an animal rescue center called Noah's Ark in Locust Grove, about 40 miles south of Atlanta.

The center's visitors can now see him.

Rescuers believe Evidence, estimated to be about 6 months old, fell from a truck and then was hit by another vehicle.

He was found April 8 eating grass along an I-75 exit.

He spent weeks at Auburn University's veterinary school getting treatment for severe injuries.

Noah's Ark has more than 1,000 animals, including lions, tigers and bison. It also is home for up to 24 children, including many who also have been abused and abandoned.

Noah's Ark is also a children's care home.

It serves a culturally diverse group of children for short-term and long-term residential care.

While some children may stay a night or a weekend, and some may stay for years, the average stay for a child is 18-24 months.

Children are referred to Noah's Ark by the Department of Family and Children's Services (DFCS).

Children remain in the custody of the state and Noah's Ark works closely with each child's caseworker.

Love, nutrition and medical care and education are also important components of the care given to the children, and are provided by supportive and nurturing adults.

The philosophy at Noah's Ark Children Care Homes is unique in that it is tied to Noah's Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center, also located on the grounds.

The goal is to bring children and animals together for the rehabilitation of both.
