DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The presidential election is less than a month away.
With Wednesday's rain, the lines for early voting have diminished somewhat in DeKalb County. But over the last several days, they have actually increased quite a bit.
This week, more than 3,000 people a day have been coming through the elections office to take advantage of early voting -- which is believed to be the most of any county in the metro area.
Behind the scenes at the office, is clearly a well-oiled machine, where dozens of workers also process a never-ending avalanche of new voter registration cards, along with the early votes -- which are done both electronically and via paper ballots.
The votes will be counted on the day of the election -- before the polls close for the night.
DeKalb County elections supervisor Linda Latimore says that state law requires the workers counting the ballots be locked in a room until their work is done.
Voters in DeKalb County who want to vote early can go to 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300 Decatur, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. The phone number there is 404-298-4020.
