ROSWELL, Ga. -- A suspect in an abduction that prompted a Levi's Call was shot and killed by Roswell Police officers at an apartment complex Friday morning, Roswell Police said.
The suspect, 25-year-old Jairo Bastos, was shot after he allegedly tried to run over a Roswell Police officer at the Concept 21 Apartments on Old Holcomb Bridge Road, police said.
The children, 22-month-old Adrian Bastos and 9-month-old Alfredo Bastos, were not injured in the incident. They are in the custody of the Roswell Police Department until their mother can be brought to the scene to receive them, police said.
Roswell Police officers came across the suspect's car Friday morning, after getting a tip about the suspect's location Thursday night, police said.
A news helicopter flying over a Roswell investigation scene shot video of a Honda Accord, apparently crashed in a parking lot at the Concept 21 apartments on Old Holcomb Bridge Road. Several Roswell Police cars were seen surrounding the Accord. A white sheet could also be seen next to the car, on the driver's side.
Investigators from the Gwinnett County Police Department were en route to Roswell, with the abducted children's mother, Roswell Police said.
Roswell Police were reluctant to confirm whether or not the two discovered children were the same children that were the subject of the Levi's Call. A spokesperson said they were awaiting positive identification from the mother in the Levi's Call.
Thursday afternoon, police responded to the 1700 Block of Noble Forest Drive near Norcross after receiving a 911 call from the children's mother, 22-year-old Adrian Stearns.
Stearns told police that her recently evicted boyfriend, 25-year-old Jairo Bastos, forced her into the passenger seat of her teal 1994 Honda Accord, Georgia Tag BGP4251, after running an errand with him. She and her children were driven around portions of DeKalb County by Bastos.
Stearns said that Bastos returned her to her apartment, but took off with the car with children still in the backseat.
The two children are 22-month-old Adrian Bastos and 9-month-old Alfredo Bastos. Both are described as Hispanic males with brown eyes and brown hair. Adrian was last seen wearing blue jeans short and a white tank top. Alfredo was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white tank top.
The suspect, Jairo Bastos was described as a 25-year-old Hispanic male with a dark complexion and multiple tattoos. He is 5 feet 5 inches, weighs around 170 pounds and has brown eyes.
Police said that Bastos is the father of the children, but does not have custody and they believed that the children were in extreme danger.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS or 911 if the vehicle or children are spotted.
