POWDER SPRINGS --- A Powder Springs police officer helped deliver a baby early Friday morning inside a van parked at a local Waffle House.

Officer Kathy Green responded to a medical assist call at the Waffle House, located at C.H. James Parkway and Florence Road.

When she arrived, she found 22 year old Marisa Escamilla of Dallas, Georgia in labor in a van.

While she was waiting for EMS personnel to arrive, the officer noticed the woman was having contractions. When the baby began crowning, Officer Green had to break the woman's water to assist in the delivery.

By the time the EMS crew arrived, they found Escamilla holding her new baby son. They transported Escamilla and the baby to Cobb Hospital.

Powder Springs Police say this was officer Green's first delivery.
