ATLANTA (AP) -- The Georgia State Patrol says a motorcyclist who
sped down Atlanta freeways while being pursued by police died when he crashed and was thrown into oncoming traffic.
Troopers identified the victim of the Sunday night accident as
44-year-old John Frederick Freeman of McDonough.
State Patrol spokesman Lt. Paul Cosper says the 21-mile chase
began on Interstate Highway 75 on Atlanta's north side after a
trooper flashed his squad car's lights when the the motorcycle sped by.
Cosper says the motorcycle headed south through downtown and took Interstate 85 toward Atlanta's airport, but struck a wall. He says the motorcycle skidded to a stop and Freeman was hurled over the wall into the path of an SUV.
