What to do? You've been flooded. You've cleaned up and now your home is threatened by mold and mildew from an abandoned foreclosed property. We are starting to hear the complaints.  Sharon LaNata of Austell has a story to tell. Her flooded house shares a wall with an abandoned foreclosed property next door.

FEMA couldn't help because it can only help individual homeowner's living in a flooded property. Fema helps homeowners and renters with uninsured or underinsuranced losses to their primary residence.

Sharon contacted her county. Cobb County Environmental Services officials contacted the property management company. If nothing is done court action could be taken but that could that can take a long time and the mold from the neighboring rotting property could spread and hamper all cleanup efforts.  It's an emergency.

That's why we contacted the property management company and the attorney in the foreclosure case. The attorney passed along pictures and the assessment of the situation to the bank that holds in the mortgage.

If you are faced with a similar situation, take pictures. Contact the property owners or bank holding the property or its property management representative. Send letters to put them on notice that there's a health hazard.  Take notes; names, times, contact numbers, etc. Contact your county's health or environmental services departments and code enforcement division.  Contact your insurance company and give it all the supporting information, that way if there is a problem down the road you can build a case to take to court.
